About Us

Dale and Pam are proud to represent Baia Wilderness Sportfishing Lodge.

They have traveled extensively, both in Australia and Internationally. Fishing at Baia impressed them so much, they now return annually. Dale and Pam have the experience to advise on tackle, lures and other necessities for your trip of a lifetime. Allow them to take care of all the little things so you can concentrate on the best fishing experience there is. They have regular contact with the people of Baia and can give you up to the minute advice on what is happening there. Dale and Pam take great pleasure in allowing you to "live the dream."

A MESSAGE TO OUR GUESTS

Dear Friends,

Your visit has contributed to the conservation of the Baia area; its rivers, rainforest, mangroves and coral reefs.

Prior to the development of the lodge, logging was the main source of income in the surrounding areas of Baia Village and the threat of a large scale logging operation would eventually make its way into the immediate area of Baia.

Baia Village and surrounding communities are apposing the destructive large scale logging that threatens their forests, rivers and their customary lifestyle. They do want development but are opting for income generating activities that are truly sustainable and will generate benefits for the generations to come without destroying or depleting their natural resources. Hence, Baia Wilderness Lodge was developed as a partnership between the people of Baia and Liamo Reef Resort.

The construction of the lodge began in the early part of 2004 by a locally owned family business in Kimbe, whom also own the Liamo Reef Resort. The father, Hans Reimann and mother Catherine, have been in PNG for over 40 years and have 3 sons and a daughter. The eldest son Riccard, educated in Australia, developed a strong friendship with the people of Baia Village and set out to assist the community by establishing a venture in tourism that would help rebuild the basic infrastructure and services back into the community. Riccard, an extremely keen sports fisherman, decided the unique area of Baia would be the perfect location for both fresh and bluewater Sports fishing.

This community project, as an alternative to logging, has supported the local communities and strengthened their sustainable management and conservation efforts. Baia Wilderness Lodge has helped the Baia Communities to achieve this goal.

From the management of Liamo Reef Resort and the people of Baia Village, we thank you again and wish you a pleasant and memorable holiday.
